AWARE-NESS
The Progression from AWARE to NESS AWARE establishes the essential groundwork for professional development, providing participants with the core understanding needed to progress their management careers, by creating strong levels of competence in managing people creating the necessary structures and habits for solid management practice. NESS takes this learning up a step and examines the more strategic aspects of management and leadership. It work on the principle of a balance between individuality and collegiality. Recognising that whilst we each have individual wants, needs and preferences we are also representing the organisation and as such have a different level of responsibility and accountability around our behaviours and our results. The four modules of NESS translate into action through four distinct yet interconnected modules. The begin with Network, then Endurance, followed by Sustainable and finally Strategic. |

This theme represents the core of the fifth module and concludes the programme. |
Then completes with NESS
Each module within NESS addresses a critical dimension of professional effectiveness. The programme recognises that success in complex organisational environments requires more than individual skill. It demands the ability to build and maintain networks, to sustain yourself and others through challenge, to think and act sustainably, and to approach your work with strategic intent. These capabilities are not simply abstract concepts but practical tools that can be developed, refined, and applied in your daily professional life.
Network: Building Connections with Purpose |
The Network module explores how relationships form the infrastructure of professional success. Personal networking begins with understanding the elements from our Psychosocial model, providing you with a framework for building authentic and meaningful connections. This understanding extends into professional networking, where you learn to create and maintain relationships that support your career progression and organisational effectiveness and reputation.
Legacy and mentoring forms a crucial part of this module, helping you understand how to give back whilst continuing to develop yourself. The module concludes by examining how you present yourself and manage your digital footprint in an increasingly connected world. These elements work together to develop your capacity for creating networks that are both genuine and strategically valuable, enhancing not just your own reputation but that of your organisation. |
Endurance: Sustaining Performance Through Challenge |
Understanding your own power forms the starting point for the Endurance module. This self-awareness creates the foundation for leading teams through change, transition, and adversity. You will explore how to maintain motivation and morale, both for yourself and others, when facing difficult circumstances. The module recognises that endurance is not about individual resilience alone but about working in partnership to create collective strength.
These components address the reality that professional life involves periods of significant challenge. The module equips you with approaches for navigating these periods whilst maintaining your effectiveness and wellbeing. By understanding how to sustain yourself and support others through difficulty, you develop the capacity to not only survive challenging times but to emerge from them stronger and more capable. |
Sustainable: Creating Lasting Value |
The Sustainable module moves beyond conventional triple bottom line thinking to explore how organisations and individuals can create genuine, lasting value. This includes developing capacity in others, recognising that sustainable success depends on growing capability throughout your organisation rather than concentrating it in isolated individuals or teams.
Measuring sustainability provides you with practical tools for assessing whether your actions and initiatives create enduring value or merely short term results. This module challenges you to think about your work in terms of its longer term impact, considering not just immediate outcomes but the systems and capabilities you leave in place. By understanding sustainability in this deeper sense, you develop the ability to make decisions and take actions that continue to generate value long after you have moved on. |
Strategic: Thinking and Acting with Intention |
The Strategic module develops your capacity for thinking beyond the immediate present. Being a futurist involves watching trends and forecasting how the landscape in which you operate might evolve. This forward thinking connects with working more effectively with stakeholders, as strategic success depends on understanding and engaging with those who influence your operating environment.
Understanding influence and control enables you to identify where you can make a difference and where you must adapt to circumstances beyond your reach. The module concludes by bringing all elements together through action planning, ensuring that strategic thinking translates into concrete steps and tangible outcomes. This final component ensures that the learning |
Here is what others have said

“The training was excellent, in fact it’s possibly the best WCC training I’ve been on. The reason why it was so useful is that it really pushed you out of your comfort zone to look at assertively challenging and actively managing staff - however you were able to practice in a safe environment during the training.”
“We looked at getting the most out of staff through coaching, mentoring and managing staff through change. The quality of the training was excellent and they r really gave you confidence to build on your existing style of management. The trainers all really knew the theory but were able to assist you in putting this into practice.” “I feel that since attending this course I have really been able to manage more assertively and overcome some barriers to challenging people appropriately, This has become particularly evident through the appraisal process - which I feel staff really got the most out of this year “ “If there is a chance that this training happens again I would definitely support it 100%. I feel really privileged that I was given the opportunity to attend this training and have already recommended this training to colleagues in our Service. “ “As you can probably tell, I have become quite passionate about this training (it doesn’t happen very often). However the areas covered in the 8 days have and will continue to stay with me and I really feel that this opportunity has shaped and moulded my style of management.” “A lot of courses these days tell you things you already know, which isn’t a bad thing as it helps you consolidate your skills and increases your confidence. However, going on a course that challenges you is really something special. The managing people course really helped me to reflect on my role as a manager and enabled me to see how I could improve the way I do things for the better of my team. Since going on the course, I have set up regular one to ones which are more structured and I generally feel a lot more at ease about the way I do things within the team...it’s an excellent course which I whole heartedly recommend both managers and aspiring managers to go on” |
